The Procedure

A friend commented to me, “You’re not really going to have this done, are you ?” And my response was, “I sure am!” The fact was that I felt like everything all my life had been building towards the day of the release and that I had no choice but to go forward. How could I live with myself if I didn’t go ahead with the release, or ‘the transformation’ as my osteopath called it? I simply had to see what life on other side of this procedure was like.

So on a cold January morning, my husband (the designated driver) and I arrived at Dr.Gambacorta’s office. Once the freezing was in, the whole procedure took about twenty minutes.

When she released the last part of the tongue, she said, “How’s that?” I can honestly tell you that the relief was overwhelming. It was my jaw and throat area had been wrapped up really tightly with a sting – and then, suddenly that string was cut! The relief was immediate and emotional – I cried a little to let those feelings out. I had an unexpected pain shooting up to my right ear and felt a sudden onset of circulation in my left thumb, but that was the extent of the benefits at that point. And Dr. Gambacorta said that my face looked different!.

She put in self-dissolving stitches and booked me in for a follow-up a week later. My recovery was slower than most, I guess, as I was eating puréed and soft foods for about a week – lots of smoothies! The pain was manageable with extra-strength Tylenol. But my tongue was exceedingly swollen and I felt very awkward speaking.

When the swelling subsided, I could see that, yes, my face wasn’t so square – it was more oval in shape and relaxed looking, the first of the many benefits I’ve described on the home page.

One Week After the Procedure

At one week after the procedure, I was back for a check-up. Everything was healing normally. I had some serious burning and numbness in my tongue which Dr. Gambacorta explained was the nerves healing. I was completely exhausted, which she attributed to the body realignment that was taking place.  She recommended ALF (Advanced Lightwire Functionals) down the road to help with the repositioning of the teeth, jaw and dental arches. ALF involves wearing a custom-made wire appliance on the inside of the teeth. It’s like having braces, only no one can see them and they are removable. Additional results can include airway enlargement and improved posture. Well, we’ll see about that. Right now I my feeling is that I’ve done enough for the moment!

A week after the release, I was back at the osteopath. As soon as she saw me, she said ‘Wow!’ To her my face was looking very different around the jaw and neck. My forehead was not so intensely focussed and I was more relaxed around the eye brows. After examining me, she said that my brain was working hard to ‘reprogram’ and adjust to the new situation and that I should get lots of sleep. And she said, ‘This is your chance. Don’t put too many demands on yourself.’
